What a Year 2021 Has Been
Hello Angel Voices
The year of 2021 so far…
What a year it has been since I last did a blog here on the Angel Voice UK website. It certainly was not planned to be the way that it was, but I know I did everything I could to make the most of the time that we had during restrictions in seeing each other. Now that I have found some balance, I’m hoping that I'll be able to keep you updated weekly. It certainly is a case of where do I start with what I have to share with you all?
Throughout the last twelve months I have been having lots of ideas that I have been able to spend the extra time focusing on. I mean who knew that singing was not an essential thing to do? I say this with humour, because to me singing has always been essential and if you feel the same way, then you will understand why I set up lots of zoom group events with singing and I carried on doing videos of little dance routines to help the singing. Lots of things were discovered, one of the main things was recording songs for others to learn, and what an eye opener that has been, especially for my women’s choir “Cathy’s Angels”. I also past my ILM level 3 in Leadership and Management and I have been working on how we can get back to our usual groups but with more energy and vitality than ever before.
But let me tell you about the summer of 2021…
Throughout the Summer Angel Voice Singing School were given the opportunity to work alongside Cecilia Harman, of Family Information Services in Powys, by doing a weekly family singing and dancing workshop, this was amazing to do and so much fun, I think I could have done this every day all over Wales. Everyone who came along really got involved. Both myself and my little sidekick choreographer Layla Jones went every week to Llanidloes to coach popular songs and do dance routines from beginning to end. In the final week we did a flash mob on the rugby pitch in which the event had been taking place. Lots of children and parents came dressed in tutu’s and leg warmers to the last session so that they stood out. It was so heart warming to see all the children and their parents and carers get involved and hearing them sing Mamma Mia together is a memory I will always treasure and I think those that took part will too.
I also did acoustic singing workshops with Pont Hafren, a local mental health organization. We went to the park in Newtown and got lots of people involved in singing for fun. Singing is one of the most inclusive forms of social fun that anyone can take part in, for me whether you think you can sing or not is not what is important, it is the taking part and learning to sing to your best ability. This is what I have been setting out to do with Angel Voice Singing School, making singing more accessible, allowing people to realize that everybody can sing and that the joy of it really does bring well-being to us all. I do feel that even though we have not been able to run our Big Picnic event for the last 2 years, we made sure we still got our message across certain parts of Powys this year.
The BIG NEWS!...
Oh yes what does AVS have store for you all over the next twelve months, well, we really need to break this down a little, so lets start with the names for the new classes that will start in the last week of September and take place in The Armoury, Welshpool for the autumn term
- Teenie Beanies. This group is for 4 to 7 year olds, helping them to sing and dance together with joy and confidence. (Thursday 4pm to 5pm)
- Pop Boppers, this group is for 8 to 11 year olds learning modern pop songs and musical pieces, incorporating them with dance and stage moves. (Thursday 5.15pm to 6.45pm)
- Teen Believers, this is a group for any teenagers, who love to sing, from the age of 12 up to the age of 18. They will learn to sing in harmony, they will create their own space vocally and physically on stage. (Wednesday 5.30pm to 7pm)
All three of those groups have a choreographer who works alongside me to help them learn to move, as well as sing at the same time.
- Cathy's Angels, This is the women's choir, the age ranges from 13 up to 80. Any of the girls that are in the Teen Believers Choir, can do this session for free. However old you are, this choir brings out the best in you, there is no ageism in singing and this group of wonderful ladies prove that session after session… as long as you are willing to sing, you'll love this group. (Wednesday 7.30pm to 9.30pm)
- Boy’ztrous Rock Choir. Our newest and most exciting workshop for 2021, I am very, very, excited to be doing this. This new male rock choir has been designed to encourage men of all ages to sing rock songs in unison, having fun and sharing their vocal abilities. Also, if some of the men play guitars, bass or drums, you know, maybe there'll be a couple of workshops where we'll be able to incorporate instruments as well. This group is open to innovation and a joy of all things that rock… my intention is that it will have the same camaraderie as my women’s group. As with the women’s group, the young men in the teen believers group can do this session for free. (Thursday 7pm to 9pm)
How exciting is this new term? VERY!! I can hear you all nodding in agreement. This autumn is the beginning of new things vocally in Welshpool…
We are now truly bringing the art of singing to the front. My dreams for Angel Voice Singing is having everyone to learn to sing from their hearts, I think that is what's definitely starting to happen. There's so much more for me to tell you and I will in good time, but honestly, I am loving life in the singing zone.
This is just the beginning there is more to come.
Thank you for reading, many blessings to you all.
Cathy Beech.
